Statistical support

It is important that indicator development, reference and boundary condition establishment, uncertainty estimates, and whole-system assessment are based on sound statistical principles. The sub-project will also seek to harmonize the statistical approaches carried out in inland and coastal water focal areas. Therefore, this cross-cutting sub-project will provide statistical guidelines for the entire consortium and will organize five dedicated workshops addressing:

  • design of gradient studies,
  • separation of climate and anthropogenic signals,
  • indicator development,
  • uncertainty assessment,
  • uncertainty propagation in classification.

These workshops will include lectures on the given subjects and hands-on experience working with data. The core group of scientists in this sub-project consists of statisticians experienced in analysing biological data from both freshwater and marine ecosystems.
